MAS, Ambercycle Partner for Textile Regeneration
Sri Lanka's MAS Holdings, a global leader in apparel manufacturing and technology, joins forces with Los Angeles-based materials science company Ambercycle.
This collaboration aims to scale up textile-to-textile regeneration in the apparel industry.
The three-year agreement reflects a growing demand for high-quality, next-generation recycled materials. It positions MAS and Ambercycle as frontrunners in building a more sustainable apparel future.
Securing Sustainable Materials and Reaching Scale
The agreement allows MAS to reserve production capacity for Ambercycle's cycora® - a circular polyester material. This ensures a steady supply for MAS's customer base and accelerates Ambercycle's path to commercial-scale production.
MAS's ambitious sustainability strategy, "Plan for Change," aligns with this partnership. The plan includes measurable goals across product development, worker well-being, and environmental impact, with a target of 50% revenue from sustainable products by 2025. The Ambercycle partnership directly supports this objective.
A Missing Link Filled: Manufacturers Drive Material Adoption
"We're committed to revolutionizing apparel product creation and manufacturing, and this collaboration is an important milestone for the industry to achieve circularity at scale," says Nemanthie Kooragamage, Director of Group Sustainable Business at MAS Holdings. "Together with Ambercycle, MAS is enabling better access to regenerated next-gen material for our customer partners. This allows brands to meet the growing demand from consumers for sustainable apparel, while creating a positive environmental impact. The partnership is an example of how manufacturers are a missing link in the adoption of material solutions, and we are excited to have opportunity to offer Ambercycle’s technology up for brand adoption."
MAS becomes the first apparel manufacturer to partner with Ambercycle. This partnership focuses on speed, scale, quality, and performance of circular polyester. It offers a sustainable solution to minimise virgin polyester use in the apparel supply chain, particularly in Asia, a key region for garment manufacturing.
Collaboration for a Sustainable Future
"Supply-chain partners play a crucial role in advancing our work to decarbonize fashion and minimize the impact of raw-material extraction on our environment," says Shay Sethi, Co-founder and CEO of Ambercycle. "We’re pleased to share our work with MAS as one of the premier manufacturing partners in the global apparel ecosystem. Together we share a strong commitment to diverting textiles from landfills and pioneering circularity at scale."
Ambercycle's cycora® uses a proprietary molecular regeneration technology to create circular polyester that matches virgin material quality. This reduces greenhouse gas emissions and reliance on landfills or incineration for textile waste.
Ambercycle further strengthens its commitment to sustainability with plans for a state-of-the-art textile regeneration facility by 2025. This facility will increase cycora® production and accelerate the apparel industry's shift towards circularity.
