$500M Investment by Republic Services Targets Bottle Recycling
Republic Services Inc

If a person can recycle at least a bottle, that too has a huge impact.
Most people believe that plastic bottles are impossible to recycle.
Republic Services, the US-based company providing overarching waste and recycling solutions, is approaching Earth Month uniquely by encouraging people to recycle their plastic bottles and debunking the myths surrounding it.
Many people believe that plastic cannot be recycled, but the fact is that plastic bottles can be recycled up to six times.
The growing plastic menace largely results from people not recycling them. Only about 3 in 10 plastic water bottles are recycled, meaning approximately 70% end up in trash, making recycling a complicated process.

Pete Keller, vice president of recycling and sustainability at Republic Services, said: "There's a big misconception that plastic can't be recycled. In fact, we recycle 300 million pounds of plastic every year, and this material is in high demand to produce new bottles and jugs.
"Everyone should be recycling their water and beverage bottles. It's not difficult to do, and this small action will make a difference one bottle at a time."
The company will invest $500 million in new plastics recycling facilities in the coming years. In 2023 alone, it recycled more than 2.5 billion water bottles and continues working on the frontline to make it easier for people to recycle as often as they can.
Republic Services offers a few tips to recycle more effectively and recognise its importance in everyday life. For example, plastic bottles should be empty, clean, and dry, with the cap always on when in the recycling bin. These small yet impactful tips help keep recycling efficient and reduce contamination.

It is also joining forces with the Association of Plastic Recyclers next month to offer public tours of recycling centres. This initiative will help people understand more in detail how recycling works and what they can do to turn plastic into new materials.
