Karen Narwold, Albemarle's general counsel and corporate secretary, will retire on April 4, 2023. Kristin M. Coleman becomes executive vice president, general counsel, and corporate secretary. Coleman reports to J. Kent Masters, chairman and CEO.
Albemarle Corporation, a specialty chemicals leader, announced today that Karen G. Narwold, executive vice president, chief administrative officer, general counsel, and corporate secretary, will retire on April 4, 2023. On November 28, 2022, Kristin M. Coleman becomes executive vice president, general counsel, and corporate secretary. Coleman reports to J. Kent Masters, chairman and CEO.
Narwold retired after nearly 13 years as Albemarle's general counsel and corporate secretary and a 36-year legal career. Senior vice president, general counsel, and corporate secretary, she joined Albemarle in 2010. She was hired in 2016.
"Karen has been a resilient executive leader for Albemarle, helping steer the company through transformational growth," Masters said. "She reorganized the legal department and compliance program, created our external affairs organization, and helped negotiate and close our 2015 $6.2 billion acquisition of Rockwood Holdings. She helped Albemarle grow during her tenure by upholding our values."
Coleman joins Albemarle from US Foods, an American foodservice distributor, where she has been executive vice president, general counsel, and chief compliance officer since 2017. She was senior vice president, general counsel, and corporate secretary of Sears Holdings Corporation and Brunswick Corporation. She practiced at Sidley Austin LLP before going in-house.
Masters said Kristin's public company experience in corporate governance, legal and regulatory risk, and compliance and ethics should drive long-term value for Albemarle stakeholders.
Coleman has a Duke University history and political science degree and a juris doctorate from the University of Michigan Law School. She founded the Chicago General Counsel Forum. She is a Center for Enriched Living Board Member Emeritus.
