The Caterpillar Foundation, Caterpillar Inc.'s philanthropic organization, supports natural infrastructure development, basic services, and disaster relief worldwide. Our objective has never changed: to establish prosperous, sustainable, and resilient communities. Caterpillar Inc.'s 2021 Sustainability Report details our historical commitments and achievements.

We partnered with many great organizations in 2021, including The Nature Conservancy, Conservation International, World Resources Institute and One Tree Planted, that use innovative strategies to adapt to climate change and risk. Together through our joint efforts in reforestation, tree planting and improved water services, the Caterpillar Foundation and our partners restored over 530,000 acres, installed approximately 500 water system interventions and removed, sequestered or captured 2.3 million metric tons of carbon this year.

In honor of Caterpillar Inc.’s 95th anniversary, we worked with One Tree Planted to plant trees in 95 locations around the world. We’ve highlighted this project with a video of our efforts in Mexico, where we restored over 45 acres in the region.

By planting trees, we are not only helping the environmental ecosystem, we are also helping the people in these resilient communities by providing land to eat, play and learn. Trees can:

Help restore the land after devastating wildfires, providing shelter for species to nourish the entire ecosystem

Invigorate parks to get people outdoors, enhancing recreational spaces to promote community integration, sports development and environmental awareness

Purify water, providing refuge and food for fish and aquatic birds

Fortify communal spaces to unify neighbors, by returning public areas to optimal conditions, which foster safer communities and connect people with nature.

Accessing basic services like water and energy, and building strong, resilient natural infrastructure are pressing issues in today’s society, and at the Caterpillar Foundation, we are proud to work with our partners on the ground helping communities around the world become more sustainable, healthier and economically adaptable.
