DPD UK is working towards reducing its emissions by 46% by the end of 2024, compared to 2020 levels.
A major part of this progress is DPD UK’s expanding electric vehicle fleet. Currently, one-third of their vans are electric, and they plan to add 350 more electric vans soon, bringing the total to nearly 4,000.
The delivery business is also using cleaner fuel in its larger vehicles. 95 per cent of its HGV fleet now runs on HVO (Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil), which cuts emissions much more than traditional diesel.
These efforts, along with improvements at the new London sorting centre, are helping DPD UK aim for its goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2040. This goal has been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
Tim Jones, Director of Marketing, Communications & Sustainability DPD group UK said, "Six years into our sustainability journey and we are more committed than ever to delivering real benefits in terms of decarbonising our business and improving every aspect of our operation.
"While our fully validated Net Zero target remains 2040, we are working hard to bring through as much change and innovation as possible right now and, as these figures show, we are on track with the trajectory required to meet the group target and are making a real difference already.
"There will be harder challenges down the line, we are well aware of that, but we will continue to work with the best in the sustainability space and invest in the innovation required to get to where we want to be."
