  • They are expanding their product lines with ammonia-based products that use a method called biomass balance.

  • These products can be easily sold using the existing sales systems and are integrated into the companies' operations.

BASF, a Germany-based multinational chemical company, and Evonik, another German speciality chemicals company and also a BASF's customer, have agreed on the delivery of BMBcert™, a special type of ammonia.

This ammonia can reduce carbon footprint and is less harmful than standard ammonia.

BASF says that the chemical industry has the potential to move away from fossil fuels to more sustainable, renewable resources. The supply of ammonia BMBcert™ will support the companies in this journey.

Evonik has received the first batch of this green ammonia and will use it in processes that meet international sustainability standards. The company aims to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2030 and become carbon neutral by 2050.

BMBcert™ can be used to make sustainable products like ESTAMIN® IPD eCO and VESTAMID® eCO Polyamide 12, without compromising quality, at the same time, maintaining the same performance as traditional ones.

The biomass balance method allows BASF to replace fossil fuels with renewable energy from biowaste in their production. They also aim to make more sustainable products by 2025, reduce their carbon footprint and achieve climate neutrality by 2050.

Overall, the partnership between BASF and Evonik will support the chemical industry in producing more sustainable products in the future and promote a greener economy.
