Evonik Cuts CO2 with Green Energy for ROHACELL® Foam
Evonik Industries AG
Evonik’s Darmstadt ROHACELL® foam production is now 100% renewable powered, reducing 3,400 tonnes of CO2 per year.
ROHACELL® will be more than 50% of Evonik’s sales by 2030.
Evonik has switched the production of its high-performance foam ROHACELL® at its main site in Darmstadt, Germany to 100% renewable energy.
3,400 tonnes of CO2 per year will be reduced from the High Performance Polymers business line.
Dr. Werner Escher, head of Evonik’s Foams & PEEK product line, says, "Sustainability is an important part of the growth strategy at Evonik’s High Performance Polymers business line. By reducing the overall carbon footprint of our ROHACELL® foams, Evonik is taking a decisive step towards our vision of providing customers with more environmentally friendly solutions."
To ensure green electricity for ROHACELL® production the Darmstadt site uses green electricity certificates and Power Purchase Agreements (PPA). The exclusive use of renewable energy in production helps reduce emissions and supports their customers in making their products more sustainable.
Evonik targets more than 50% of its sales to come from “Next Generation Solutions” by 2030, which include products like ROHACELL® with exceptional sustainability benefits.
ROHACELL® is a rigid polymethacrylimide structural foam with lightweight properties and high temperature and pressure resistance. It is used in high-end applications in aeronautics, electronics, medical technology, and transportation. As a core material in composite products, ROHACELL® enables the development of strong and lightweight parts, like those in high-speed trains and electric vehicles, to increase efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions.
