  • Assess the risks and impacts of natural disasters caused by climate change.

  • Technologies like AI are used to identify potential threats and provide more effective risk mitigation recommendations.

NEC Indonesia, a company providing telecommunications and IT business solutions, has partnered with Sinar Mas Land, a real estate development company, to tackle climate change.

The companies have agreed to use a financial approach called Adaptation Finance, which helps identify risks emanating from climate-related disasters like floods and earthquakes early on. The approach was developed by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to assess the risks and impacts of natural disasters caused by climate change.

Last week, leaders from the companies signed an agreement to study the viability of Adaptation Finance in Indonesia. They will use technology to improve financial solutions for different industries based on successful methods NEC has used in Japan.

The companies will develop innovative tools to visualise disaster risks and make it easier for banks and insurance companies to understand potential threats and losses. This way, communities and infrastructure are protected from climate-related disasters in the future.

NEC Indonesia will use data, artificial intelligence (AI), and predictive analytics to learn threats and provide suggestions for managing risks. This approach will help effectively allocate funds to benefit society, businesses, and the environment.
