Northzone has appointed Anna Skarborg as its first head of sustainability to advance the firm's environmental initiatives.

Skarborg will work with the founders of Northzone portfolio companies to help them build sustainability into their growing businesses. She will also work on the sustainability plan for the venture capital.

Pär-Jörgen Pärson, partner, Northzone, said:

“Anna shares our belief that the most material impact that Northzone as a VC can have is through our investments.”

The new head of sustainability was previously an expert on sustainable leadership at the World Economic Forum. She was also co-founder of the business consulting firm Canucci. Northzone has offices in New York, London, and Stockholm.

“By partnering with founders at an early stage, we have the potential to make sustainability a natural part of their corporate DNA, rather than an afterthought,” added Pärson.

Previously, Northzone invested in Spotify, Klarna, TIER, Hopin, Pollen, and Trustpilot.

Northzone is not the only investor interested in making a difference in the planet's health. Elodie Broad was hired as Balderton Capital's head of impact and sustainable goals last month.

Ocean 14 Capital recently raised an additional £9 million for its impact fund dedicated to long-term ocean preservation projects.
