Amcor, Kolon Industries Partner for Recyclable Packaging Materials
Amcor Plc
Through this collaboration, both companies promote the use of recycled and renewable materials in global packaging.
They leverage their expertise to support a circular economy.
Amcor, a Zurich-based packaging company, has joined forces with Kolon Industries, a Korean chemical and textile manufacturing company, to develop new sustainable polyester materials.
Amcor uses these eco-friendly packaging materials in its flexible packaging products.
The company focuses on two materials: chemically recycled PET (crPET) and polyethylene furoate (PEF). crPET is made from recycled plastic from bottles, fibres, and packaging and aligns with Amcor's target of using 30% recycled materials in its products by 2030.

PEF, on the other hand, is a material made entirely from renewable, plant-based sources. Similar to PET, it offers greater protection and a smaller carbon footprint, supporting the company’s aim of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
William Jackson, Amcor’s chief technology officer for flexible packaging solutions, said: "This partnership enhances our efforts to offer customers innovative, more sustainable packaging solutions that include PCR content and reduce their carbon footprint."
The companies will use their expertise in packaging and recycling technologies to advance sustainability. Their goal is to create more environmentally friendly packaging and support a circular economy.
Sung Han, chief technology officer at Kolon Industries, commented: “Our collaboration with Amcor will help accelerate the commercialization of more sustainable products and drive the circular economy in global packaging. We will continue expanding the development of more sustainable polymer technologies in support of carbon neutrality.”
