Key Takeaways

  • Amcor and Lorenz Snacks partner to develop a fully recyclable package for lentil-coated peanuts.

  • The new packaging has a 51% reduction in environmental impact compared to traditional ones.

  • This collaboration is an important step towards achieving sustainable packaging in the food business.

Leading packaging company Amcor has partnered with global snack manufacturer Lorenz Snacks to introduce a revolutionary new package for their Lentil Coated Peanuts product.

Lorenz Snacks, a family-owned business with a rich history, has been actively working towards improving the sustainability of its packaging. Their commitment is evident in their achievement of a "good" recyclability rating for a whopping 92% of their primary packaging, as certified by cyclos-HTP. With a defined goal of reaching 100% recyclability by the end of 2025, their collaboration with Amcor represents a big step forward.

The new Lentil Coated Peanuts packaging uses Amcor's innovative AmPrima technology. This range of recyclable, single-material packaging options prioritises sustainability without sacrificing performance. Compared to traditional packaging, AmPrima has a remarkable 51% reduction in carbon footprint, water consumption, and non-renewable energy use. The packaging also aligns with CEFLEX design guidelines, promoting a circular economy where materials are reused and recycled effectively.

The challenge of creating sustainable packaging for snacks lies in balancing recyclability with product protection and shelf life. Traditional options often rely on multi-material composites that are difficult to recycle. Amcor's AmPrima offers an innovative solution. This technology delivers the necessary barrier protection, maintains physical durability, and ensures an attractive presentation, all while being fully recyclable.

"The AmPrima solution addresses a major hurdle in sustainable snack packaging," says Piotr Nagalski, Sales and Marketing Director for Snacks & Confectionery at Amcor. "It offers excellent barrier protection, durability, and visual appeal, while also allowing consumers to easily recycle the packaging – a feature that wasn't previously possible."

Consumer preferences clearly demonstrate a growing demand for sustainable packaging that does not compromise on aesthetics. Amcor's solution empowers Lorenz to maintain an attractive package while upholding the quality and protection consumers expect.

"The successful implementation of Amcor's AmPrima packaging for Lorenz Lentil Coated Peanuts showcases the potential of sustainable packaging in the snack industry," concludes Nagalski. "This collaboration brings together Amcor's innovative expertise with Lorenz's deep understanding of the snack market, pushing the boundaries of what's achievable."
