Wizz Air, the fastest-growing and most environmentally sustainable airline in Europe, has launched a new programme called the WIZZ Sustainability Ambassador programme.

This initiative is a significant step in the airline's unwavering dedication to long-term sustainability.

Amidst a workforce of over 7,000 individuals, encompassing both cabin crew and office staff, the selection process identified 24 outstanding Sustainability Ambassadors.

These representatives hail from 22 bases and two offices spanning diverse locations, including Albania, Austria, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Georgia, Hungary, Italy, Malta, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, the UAE, and the UK.

Spanning from September 2023 to May 2024, these WIZZ Sustainability Ambassadors will wholeheartedly support local sustainability projects within the airline's bases and offices. Their mission is to foster eco-friendly practices and disseminate invaluable sustainability insights among their colleagues.

Upon the conclusion of this period, Wizz Air's Corporate & ESG Officer, Yvonne Moynihan, and the dedicated sustainability team will assess and recognise the most impactful project championed by these dedicated Ambassadors.

Yvonne Moynihan, Corporate and ESG Officer at Wizz Air, expressed her enthusiasm for this initiative, stating, "We are delighted to offer our colleagues an opportunity to engage in meaningful sustainability projects. These Sustainability Ambassadors will play a pivotal role in raising awareness and driving positive change in environmental and social sustainability matters across Wizz Air's extensive network.

"With our aircraft already operating with industry-leading carbon intensity, we firmly believe that active participation in local initiatives at our bases and offices will enable the WIZZ team to further reduce our environmental footprint. Sustainability is one of the core values at the heart of everything we do."

In the fiscal year 2023, Wizz Air achieved a remarkable carbon emissions intensity of 53.8 grams per passenger/km, marking an impressive 11% reduction compared to the previous fiscal year. This achievement represents Wizz Air's all-time lowest recorded result for a single fiscal year, setting it apart from major competitor airlines.

Wizz Air's sustainability strategy is underpinned by four key pillars: environment, people, governance, and economy. The airline maintains an unwavering commitment to reducing its environmental footprint and carbon intensity, fostering employee development, contributing to the socio-economic development of the regions where it operates, and enhancing its corporate governance practices.
