U. S. Steel's Environmental Product Declarations

United States Steel Corporation (U.S. Steel) has introduced environmental product declarations (EPDs) for its key flat-rolled steel offerings, including Hot-Rolled, Cold-Rolled, and Corrosion-Resistant products manufactured at Big River Steel Works.
These EPDs provide objective, audited, and quantifiable environmental data for these core products. With a validity of five years, these disclosures enable U. S. Steel customers to make informed decisions by selecting more sustainable steel products that align with their manufacturing needs. This marks a significant step in measuring the carbon footprint of U. S. Steel's products.
"We are excited to announce the availability of EPDs for our major flat-rolled steel coil products, encompassing all products melted at Big River Steel Works. This development adds substantial value for our customers who seek transparency in understanding the environmental impact of their supply chain," commented Kenneth E. Jaycox, Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer for U. S. Steel. "By providing transparent and data-supported validation of our products, we empower our customers to make informed and sustainable choices."
The EPDs are certified and audited by the American Society for Testing and Materials, offering a comprehensive report that presents a holistic view of the environmental impact of each product.
This information enables transparent and sustainable decision-making by including details about global warming potential, smog creation, and water usage associated with the products.
U. S. Steel's commitment to sustainable steel, as highlighted in their 2022 Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Report, underscores the importance of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and supporting green technologies.
The company is dedicated to significant emissions reduction efforts and aims to provide profitable, innovative, and sustainable steel solutions, contributing to a greener planet that benefits all.
