TCS Launches UK/Ireland Sustainathon for University Students to Address Environmental Issues through Digital Innovation
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has announced the 2022 UK and Ireland Sustainathon, a problem-solving competition that asks university students to use new digital technologies, creativity, and teamwork to find corporate sustainability solutions.
Registration for the 2022 Sustainathon started yesterday. During the two-week sprint, university students will work with TCS and its partner network to come up with digital solutions that can help businesses solve their most pressing sustainability challenges.
TCS is working with the University of Glasgow and universities all over the UK and Ireland to start the competition. This is part of its ongoing efforts to promote STEM skills, help young people develop their skills, and support businesses that are good for the environment. As the challenge partners for 2022, Phoenix Group, Lloyds Banking Group, Improvement Service, Community Fibre, and Marks and Spencer will be among the companies that TCS will work closely with.
Teams that sign up will have the unique chance to join a series of interactive masterclasses, virtual mentoring sessions, and online webinars with business and community leaders who will help them through each step of the ideation process and help make their ideas a reality.
After presenting their ideas to the judges, the winning teams will get sustainable prizes and a chance to showcase their ideas at the grand finale on Tuesday, December 6th. The judging panel will include people from UnifAI Technology, the Rail Delivery Group, a few non-profits, and sustainability experts who are not involved in the competition process. The team that wins the Grand Finale will get a paid internship with TCS for one month.
Gopalan Rajagopalan, Country Head, TCS Scotland & Sales Director, TCS UK&I, said:
"TCS is fully committed to addressing environmental challenges in the countries and communities we operate in and building a sustainable future through innovation and adoption of digital technologies. The TCS Sustainathon will encourage university students to work with some of our customers and partners to identify and address real-world issues and bring their ideas to life.”
