Entrecanales Domecq e Hijos has been honoured with the title of Spain's leading sustainable food and beverage company at The Sustainability Awards, a prestigious event organised by Forbes and Credit Suisse.

Renowned for its unwavering commitment to sustainability, Entrecanales Domecq e Hijos has emerged as a trailblazer in the Spanish wine industry.

The company was among the first wineries in the country to receive Carbon Neutral certification and has successfully transitioned to 100% renewable energy sources, solidifying its position as Spain's foremost sustainable enterprise, according to The Sustainability Awards.

Recognised as an environmental steward, the winery achieved carbon-neutral status in 2022, a remarkable achievement accredited by the esteemed independent certifier DNV. Through a combination of emission reduction efforts and effective greenhouse gas neutralisation measures, Entrecanales Domecq e Hijos has demonstrated its pioneering approach to sustainable practices.

During his acceptance speech, CEO Gonzalo Entrecanales emphasised the company's inherent commitment to sustainability, stating, "As a company with sustainability deeply ingrained in its DNA, we should uphold our dedication to excellence, environmental responsibility, societal impact, and ethical business practices. We also aim to educate consumers about the significance of considering these factors when making any purchase."

The independent panel of judges responsible for evaluating the Forbes - Credit Suisse Sustainability Awards were not only impressed by Entrecanales Domecq e Hijos' past achievements but also recognised the company's forward-thinking Sustainability Plan.

This comprehensive strategy outlines 100 specific actions that will be implemented between 2023 and 2027, covering crucial areas such as environmental initiatives, social practices, and corporate governance. The panel highly regarded this plan as a testament to the company's ongoing commitment to sustainability and its determination to create a positive impact in multiple spheres.

Entrecanales Domecq e Hijos, with vineyards and wineries spread across renowned wine regions in Spain such as Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Rueda, and Valdeorras D.O.s, possesses over 400 hectares of its own vineyards. As a testament to its innovative approach, the company recently introduced Casa Cosme Palacio, the country's inaugural 'by invitation only' guesthouse located in Rioja Alavesa.

The Forbes - Credit Suisse Sustainability Awards, now in its second edition, welcomes Spanish companies with an annual turnover exceeding €50 million to participate. In the inaugural edition held in 2022, the esteemed Osborne Group emerged victorious in the food and beverage category.
