Key Takeaways

  • Siemens Digital Industries Software joins GBA to drive change across the battery supply chain.

  • Uses digitalisation to create an efficient, ethical and sustainable battery industry.

  • Supports the GBA’s goals of a circular battery value chain, reducing carbon emissions and human rights and economic development.

Siemens Digital Industries Software has joined the Global Battery Alliance (GBA), a global platform of international organisations, NGOs, industry leaders, academia and multiple governments.

This is a collective effort to drive change throughout the entire battery supply chain.

Puneet Sinha, Senior Director of the Battery Industry at Siemens Digital Industries Software, said, “Joining the Global Battery Alliance is a critical step that Siemens is taking to build our battery passport ecosystem which aims to go beyond regulatory compliance and empower stakeholders to capture, access and manage battery value chain data. Together with the Global Battery Alliance and its community, we are helping to bring the power of digital transformation to a future-facing battery industry that is efficient, ethical and sustainable.”

The company fully supports the GBA's vision, which is based on three pillars: a circular battery value chain, a low carbon economy within the industry and human rights and economic development. By following these principles, they will introduce sustainable practices in the battery industry, reduce environmental impact and create new jobs and economic value for communities around the world.

Inga Petersen, Executive Director of the Global Battery Alliance, said, “We are delighted to welcome Siemens to the Global Battery Alliance to help drive our shared vision of driving adoption of digital transformation across all aspects of the production lifecycle, from ideation through engineering, production and disposal to increase efficiency and build a sustainable battery industry."

This is part of Siemens’ continued commitment to sustainable energy solutions as regulations on battery sustainability, carbon footprint, and traceability evolve globally. By joining the GBA, Siemens is aligning with all stakeholders across the battery supply chain – material developers, cell suppliers, OEMs and government bodies – to create a greener and more ethical future.
