Pandora A/S
Key Takeaways
Jewellery giant Pandora aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040.
Pandora's target aligns with the Paris Agreement and has been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative.
The company has already reduced its full value chain emissions by 27% since 2019.
Pandora focuses on renewable energy, recycled materials, and supply chain collaboration for emissions cuts.
Jewellery maker Pandora has committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2040, a goal validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
Achieving net-zero means slashing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 90% across the entire business and offsetting any remaining emissions. Pandora's new goal builds on its previous commitment to halve emissions by 2030, which is also validated by the SBTi.
Mads Twomey-Madsen, Pandora's Senior Vice President for Global Communications and Sustainability, says, "Climate change is a major source of global instability and there is an urgent need for action. By aligning our net-zero target with the SBTi, we confirm our commitment to reduce our carbon footprint significantly and help build a sustainable future. We encourage partners and peers to join us in making this reality."
“Climate science tells us that we need rapid and deep emissions cuts if we are to achieve global net-zero and prevent the most damaging effects of climate change,” said Luiz Amaral, Chief Executive Officer of the Science Based Targets initiative. “Pandora’s net-zero targets match the urgency of the climate crisis and set a clear example that their peers must follow.”
Since 2019, Pandora has already made progress, cutting its emissions across the whole value chain by 27%. Using only sustainable energy for its production facilities and transitioning to recycled gold and silver are two of its major accomplishments.
To further cut emissions, Pandora intends to investigate more circular material processes, enhance manufacturing and logistics efficiency, and work closely with suppliers.
