Oman Cables Sustainability Day, Driving a Green Future

Oman Cables Industry (OCI), a renowned energy cables manufacturer and innovative service provider in Oman, joined hands with strategic partner Prysmian Group to present their vision for a sustainable future.

The occasion called the Sustainability Day event, took place on July 19, 2023, and brought together industry leaders from across the GCC Region.

At the event, OCI reiterated its unwavering dedication to sustainable growth and its strong alignment with the ambitious Oman Vision 2040.

Under the theme "Going Green, Going Digital," the event showcased OCI's proactive approach to sustainability, acting as a powerful platform to explore paths towards a greener and digitally-driven future. Experts engaged in insightful discussions, delving into the latest trends in sustainable transformation within the industry.

In line with their commitment to sustainability, Oman Cables Group identified 50 projects to be carried out over the next three years, with dedicated investments approved for 2023 to bolster their sustainability efforts.

The company's commitment to sustainability has been instrumental in its growth strategy, leading to the implementation of Climate Change Ambition and adherence to the Science Based Target initiatives in 2021.

During the opening address, Cinzia Farisè, the CEO of Oman Cables, outlined the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) approach.

Subsequently, COO Muhannad Al Lawati provided an overview of Oman Cables' Climate Ambition, detailing the organisation's projects aimed at combating climate change.

CSO Giancarlo Esposito illustrated the Social Ambition, showcasing numerous projects and specific KPIs related to diversity and inclusion.

The final segment was dedicated to Innovation4Sustainability, featuring an exploration of the company's main innovations and innovative projects, including the establishment of the Renewables Excellence Center in Oman, focusing on solar, wind, and hydrogen technologies for the entire region.

The event was honoured by the presence of the distinguished Guest of Honour, HH Dr. Adham Al Said, who emphasised the critical drivers of sustainability in the Sultanate. His insightful address highlighted how sustainability plays a crucial role in shaping the future economic development of Oman.

Cinzia Farisè, the CEO, expressed, "Sustainability lies at the core of our business strategy, and through innovation, decarbonisation, and customer-centricity, our technology plays a pivotal role in the energy and digital transition processes.

"We engage stakeholders, prioritise the entire value chain, and continuously innovate to anticipate customers' needs. With a focus on the circular economy and an inclusive work environment, we are committed to driving positive change. In alignment with Oman Vision 2040 and the nation's net-zero emissions goal by 2050, we are determined to create a sustainable world that thrives economically while safeguarding our environment for future generations."

OCI is striving to make a significant contribution to Prysmian Group's ambitious goals of reducing scope 1 and 2 emissions by 47% and scope 3 emissions by 28% by 2030, in comparison to the levels in 2019.

The long-term goals involve achieving a 90% reduction in scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2035 and scope 3 emissions by 2050. The Group is also advancing a circular economy roadmap, focusing on sustainable revenue streams and increasing the use of recycled content.

The speakers emphasised how OCI integrates sustainability into production processes throughout the value chain, anticipating customer needs and fostering more vital supplier collaboration to drive continuous innovation. With the convergence of clean energy and digital infrastructures, OCI is committed to empowering technological advancements for efficiency, innovation, and progress.

Oman Cables has set clear targets to enhance gender representation in the workforce and aims to effectively participate in Prysmian Group's target to increase the percentage of women to 47–49% by 2025 and 50% by 2030.

The Group takes pride in its ESG plan, supported by a dedicated Steering Committee, whose leaders regularly meet to drive sustainability efforts. Six specialised teams focus on Net-zero emissions, Circularity, Innovation, Value Chain, Sustainable Finance, and Sustainable Human Resources. The related projects reflect their commitment to long-term value creation.
