New Reusable PET Bottles for Cosmetic Products

Zerooo, ALPLA and SEA ME GmbH are launching 300ml reusable PET bottles for cosmetics and care products.
Zerooo’s PET bottles are a cost-effective, safe and eco-friendly alternative to glass and support the circular economy in the cosmetics industry.
The bottles have a 2D data matrix code for tracking, transparency and quality and can be returned at many collection points.
Zerooo, together with packaging and recycling specialist ALPLA and SEA ME GmbH, is introducing a new standard PET packaging for cosmetics and care products.
From September, brands will launch products like shampoo, shower gel, body lotion and detergent in 300ml PET bottles. The reusable and fully recyclable bottles come in three colours and fit all caps. Each bottle has a laser-engraved 2D data matrix code with information about the content and circulation history.
Circular Economy in Cosmetics
Zerooo’s packaging solution supports the circular economy by offering reusable PET bottles for the cosmetics industry, in addition to glass. SEA ME GmbH’s system provides brands with safe, affordable and eco-friendly alternatives.
Together with ten brand partners and ALPLA, zerooo has developed a fully recyclable, shatterproof PET bottle in clear, milky white and brown. The bottles will be launched in Germany in September and in Austria in October. The returnable bottles can be returned at over 1.000 retail partner locations for a deposit of €0,50.
Plastic Recycling with Reusable PET
ALPLA, a global packaging and recycling expert, is driving the closed ‘bottle-to-bottle’ recycling with their facilities. ALPLA’s expertise as a system supplier and designer was crucial for the development of the zerooo reusable PET bottle at their STUDIOa design centre in Hard.
Alexander Tränkle, Industrial Designer at ALPLA, says: “ With "Design for Recycling”, we are setting the course early on for optimum recycling and the longest possible service life. Every detail counts when it comes to shape, colour and material. The reusable system extends the life cycle of the plastic bottle, saves material and reduces its carbon footprint."
Serialisation for Transparency and Quality
Each zerooo PET bottle has a laser engraved unique 2D data matrix code, called zerooo ID, that tracks the content and circulation history of the bottle. The digital labelling system can also integrate additional product information from labels to increase traceability.
According to Jörg Schwärzler, Senior Technology Manager at ALPLA, the reusable bottles are compatible with all automatic return systems and at the end of life the bottles and caps are sorted and recycled.
