Menzies Aviation Sets New Net-Zero Targets

Menzies Aviation, a leading service partner to airports and airlines worldwide, has unveiled its ambitious commitment to achieving net-zero carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) emissions across all scopes (1, 2, and 3) by 2045.
The company is set to announce its transition pathway and initiatives following the submission and review of targets by the Science Based Targets initiative, demonstrating its dedication to sustainability and a greener future for aviation services.
The newly published 2022 Annual Review & Sustainability Report outlines Menzies Aviation's refreshed sustainability targets, which align with its 'All In' plan for a fair and sustainable future launched in 2021. The company's board holds itself accountable for establishing the company's strategy and ensuring transparent reporting on its objectives.
John Geddes, Chief Governance & Sustainability Officer & Company Secretary at Menzies Aviation, emphasised the importance of collaboration within the industry to combat climate change. Geddes expressed the belief that the aviation services sector has the opportunity to follow Menzies Aviation's lead and strive for similarly ambitious targets to achieve a sustainable future while also emphasising the need for responsible and sustainable growth.
The report also highlights Menzies Aviation's broader environmental, social, and governance (ESG) targets, initiatives, and commitments.
Significant progress has been made over the past year, including the addition of nearly 200 electric Ground Support Equipment (GSE) to the fleet, with the goal of having 25% of global motorised GSE electric by 2025.
Additionally, Menzies Aviation opened its first GSE refurbishment and repower workshop in Las Vegas, with plans to further expand these efforts in 2023 and beyond.
The company has also improved training and awareness regarding cybersecurity, actively supported airline customers and stakeholders in emission reduction efforts, and joined the Tent Partnership for Refugees to support refugee employment.
Menzies Aviation has also adopted the United Nations Women's Empowerment Principles, implemented allyship and unconscious bias training, and participated in various UN Accelerator programs focusing on gender equality and climate action.
Furthermore, the company is actively engaged in the UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Ambition Accelerator programme, specifically targeting SDG 13, Climate Action.
Philipp Joeinig, Chief Executive of Menzies Aviation, expressed satisfaction with the progress made in key sustainability areas such as the environment, ethics, people, and safety over the past year.
He commended the company's dedicated teams for continuously identifying opportunities to operate as a fair and sustainable business without compromising service quality. Looking ahead, Menzies Aviation prioritises collaboration with customers and partners, aiming to support them in achieving their sustainability goals while working towards industry-wide net-zero targets.
