Lazada Group publishes ESG impact report 2024.

Highlights

  • Lazada’s FY2024 ESG Impact Report shows big progress on environmental and social governance.

  • Highlights include a new carbon data collection platform and a 40% reduction in carbon emissions.

  • The report shows Lazada’s commitment to community empowerment, workforce development and environmental stewardship.

Lazada, the leading eCommerce platform in Southeast Asia, has released its FY2024 Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) Impact Report titled “Accelerating Innovation, Anchoring Resilience”.

This report details the company’s ESG initiatives and achievements across four main pillars: Empowering Communities, Future-Ready Workforce, Environmental Stewardship and Effective Governance.

One of the key highlights in this year’s report is the launch of an internal carbon data collection platform. This platform uses an updated activity-based carbon accounting methodology to track and manage the Group’s carbon emissions. The new system improves data quality and accuracy for Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions overall.

Lazada’s business optimisation efforts have resulted in a 40% reduction in total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions vs the previous period. Breakdown: 54% reduction in Scope 1, 8% reduction in Scope 2 and 30% reduction in Scope 3.

James Dong, CEO of Lazada Group said, “We are committed to making a positive environmental impact and supporting all stakeholders in the eCommerce ecosystem. We are focused on long-term growth, economic prosperity and sustainable development.”

The report also highlights several ESG achievements by Lazada:

Empowering Communities

Driving technological innovation with “Ask the Buyers” for better product selection and LazzieChat, a chatbot powered by OpenAI ChatGPT. They have also launched national QR code payment in Singapore and Thailand to make online shopping more accessible. And, Lazada Sustainability Academy to support small and medium businesses in Southeast Asia to go green.

Future-Ready Workforce

Lazada Indonesia has partnered with West Java Education Ministry to launch “Naik KeLaz” training programme for vocational high school teachers to equip them with digital skills. They also have an internal ESG training module to help employees integrate ESG into their daily work.

Environmental Stewardship

The company has reduced GHG emissions by 40% with improved carbon accounting. In September 2023, Lazada Thailand launched its first sustainable logistics hub, which uses solar power, electric motorcycles and uniforms made from recycled PET plastics. The hub’s solar panels cover 20% of its electricity needs.

Effective Governance

100% of employees have completed training on Code of Business Conduct and Anti-Bribery and Corruption Policy. Lazada’s Intellectual Property Protection Platform processes takedown requests and uses AI to remove infringing listings.

Gladys Chun, General Counsel of Lazada Group said, “We are proud of our transparency and progress. Sustainability is holistic.”

Lazada FY2024 ESG Impact Report is aligned with GRI Standards 2021.
