Lafarge Africa Plc, a Lagos-based building solutions company, has launched a new facility at its Mfamosing plant in Cross River State.

The Alternative Fuel and Raw Material (AFR) facility will replace fossil fuels with energy from non-recyclable waste materials. By launching the new facility, the company aims to reduce its environmental impact, support local economic growth, and set new standards in Nigeria’s construction industry.

This is a big step towards achieving a circular economy in Nigeria, with government officials, community leaders, and industry partners gathering to celebrate at the launch event.

The company aims to reduce carbon emissions, generate employment opportunities, and support local businesses involved in collecting and supplying materials through the AFR facility.

Mr. Lolu Alade-Akinyemi, CEO of Lafarge Africa Plc, said: “Today is more than a significant milestone for Lafarge Africa; it is a remarkable step forward for Nigeria’s construction industry, setting new standards in sustainability and innovation. This facility will enable us to use alternative fuels and materials in our production, lowering our CO2 emissions and positioning us as a leader in sustainable practices across Nigeria and Africa.”
