HSBC UK Backs Gourmet Marshmallow Company
HSBC Holdings PLC

HSBC UK has provided a premium confectionery company in Leeds with funding to support environmental initiatives.
The Marshmallowist was founded more than a decade ago on a London market stall on Portobello Road. Since then, the company has relocated to Leeds and expanded into a manufacturer of premium marshmallow and chocolate candies, serving retailers such as Harrods, Fortnum & Mason, and Selfridges.
The company has won a five-figure investment package from HSBC UK's Green SME fund to transition all its products to biodegradable packaging.
In addition to being biodegradable, the new Marshmallowist packaging from Simply Cartons is manufactured from FSC-approved and food-grade safe sustainable materials. The 'enviracoat' barrier coating will replace the plastic laminate in the product packaging of the Marshmallowist.
The change will allow the company to continue delivering to consumers throughout the United Kingdom with entirely recyclable packaging.
Oonagh Simms, the owner of the Marshmallowist, said:
"Having a sustainable business means the world to us. We made this change to 100 per cent biodegradable packaging to reflect our values and practices. We thank HSBC UK for enabling us to achieve our vision to keep growing the marshmallowist with sustainability and high-quality products at our core."
HSBC UK deputy head and South regional director for small business banking added:
"It's fantastic to support the Marshmallowist with its next steps in sustainability. The business has built a strong following in recent years, with many devotees of its products sharing a concern for the environment.
"This move to sustainable packaging will ensure that customers can continue to purchase high-quality products responsibly for many years to come."
