DHL, Girl Scouts Boosting Female Supply Chain Leaders

DHL Supply Chain North America will work with Girl Scouts of the USA to develop a programme in order to increase future female supply chain leadership and inform girls about career options in the supply chain industry.
DHL Supply Chain, the market leader in contract logistics for North America and a division of DHL Group has partnered with Girl Scouts of the USA to create a programme and branded patch that will enable girls to learn about the significance of the supply chain sector and to explore a variety of fascinating careers in it.
DHL Supply Chain has historically supported Girl Scout councils across the United States, offering local mentorship opportunities in a number of places, including Detroit, Michigan, and Columbus, Ohio. The corporation has pledged $1 million in an effort to increase its assistance to the group.
"We are proud to expand our relationship with Girl Scouts of the USA. Entrepreneurship is a pillar of the Girl Scout experience and we’re excited to show Girl Scouts the ins and outs of supply chain and logistics while exposing them to career paths in the industry,” said Scott Sureddin, CEO, DHL Supply Chain, North America.
"We want to build on their aptitude for logistics and, through mentorship, show them real examples of women and men who have built successful careers in the field."
”We continue to look for innovative ways to engage our employees in supporting the company’s diversity equity inclusion and belonging efforts. Our robust Women in Supply Chain (WISC) Employee Resource Group will play an integral role in executing the volunteer program and partnership with local Girl Scout troops," he added. From 2023 to 2024, DHL Supply Chain and Girl Scouts of the USA will work together to design and test the skills training programme with at least 10 councils. In 2025 and 2026, Girl Scout groups all around the country will have access to the patch programme.
"We greatly appreciate DHL’s commitment to Girl Scouts and are thrilled to be working with them to prepare girls to lead in this important field,” said Bonnie Barczykowski, CEO of Girl Scouts of the USA. “Girl Scouts offers girls opportunities to explore subject areas they might not be encouraged to in school and learning all about career pathways in supply chain and logistics enables them to see the possibilities that are out there to become leaders in a field they may have never imagined."
"Programmes like the DHL skills logistics and supply chain pilot will help us to invest in the future of girls who want to become tomorrow's leaders in these in-demand, STEM careers," said Girl Scouts of Ohio's Heartland CEO Tammy Wharton. "We are grateful for DHL’s support and proud to launch this program here so girls from across Central Ohio, and soon the rest of the US can embrace new opportunities and lay the foundation for a better economic future."
Investing actively in aspiring supply chain executives
The collaboration with Girl Scouts of the USA is the latest endeavour in a long line of supply chain recruitment initiatives made by DHL Supply Chain. The DHL Supply Chain Future Leaders Scholarship was introduced by the corporation in 2022. It offers annual scholarships to students at 11 institutions who are enrolled in supply chain management, IT, packaging, or finance programmes. Additionally, the business contributes yearly corporate gifts to four U.S. university supply chain centres of excellence, which fund faculty supply chain research and student programmes.
DHL Supply Chain has also run an internship programme for more than ten years. Only in 2022 did DHL Supply Chain's world-class programme offer 237 students a 10- to 12-week intense experience that included networking, professional growth, and a group capstone project. The capstone project offered the interns the chance to collaborate to address contemporary business challenges and then submit their solutions to executives at the North American corporate headquarters of DHL Supply Chain. More than half of students chose full-time jobs with the company after graduating from the programme in 2022.
