Crowley and EcoVadis Collaborate for a More Transparent and Sustainable Value Chain

Crowley has selected the international business sustainability rating provider EcoVadis to evaluate the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) impacts of its supply chain's suppliers. Crowley, a global provider of supply chain solutions, is the first maritime and logistics firm in the United States to work with EcoVadis on its value chain solutions.

Using the unparalleled technological capabilities of EcoVadis, Crowley and its supplier-contractor base will be able to obtain assessments of their present sustainability levels and strategic direction on how to establish, enhance, and achieve ESG objectives.

Crowley has pledged to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 using a science-based approach. In its first sustainability report, published in June, the firm outlined its plan and developed a clear benchmark for measuring its ESG goals.

Crowley's aims include adopting low-to zero-carbon fuels and supporting the development of new energy; improving talent diversity, growth, and retention; and helping individuals and communities. The relationship with EcoVadis follows Crowley's successful implementation of Salesforce's Net Zero Cloud technology, in conjunction with PwC, to measure and analyse emissions along its entire value chain.

As part of its commitment to sustainability, Crowley has increased its efforts to promote diversity and equity in business by setting targets for 2030 to ensure that 37% of its suppliers are diverse and 27% of its purchases come from small businesses.

Crowley’s Jean Matthews, vice president, procurement, said:

"EcoVadis is the leading authority for assessing and improving sustainability in the value chain, and Crowley is excited to start using the platform to achieve our shared ambition for a cleaner, more sustainable planet using verified assessments. By fostering more responsible business practices, together we can help our customers, contractors, vendors, and our people in each of our communities have a better tomorrow.”

Crowley will be able to identify high-performing and early adopters of ESG and gain visibility into its suppliers' sustainability results to drive procurement decisions. EcoVadis employs 21 indicators across four themes: environment, labour and human risks, ethics, and sustainable procurement. EcoVadis follows the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.

David McClintock, Marketing Director at EcoVadis, said:

"Crowley has taken an essential step by including the value chain in their sustainability commitments. We look forward to supporting the rollout and expansion of their sustainable procurement programme to engage their supply base in realising these goals.”
