Chemours Leads Sustainability with Science-Based Goals

Chemours, a global leader in chemical technologies, announced that the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTI) has approved their ambitious plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
This includes their existing goal of a 60% cut in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030, alongside a new target to reduce Scope 3 emissions by 25% per ton of production by the same year.
"Receiving approval for our near-term science-based emissions reduction targets from the SBTi marks a critical milestone in Chemours’ sustainability journey. We are committed to making a meaningful impact in the global fight against climate change, including through our sustainable offerings and responsible manufacturing practices," said Dr. Amber Wellman, Chemours Chief Sustainability Officer. "Since Chemours established its Corporate Responsibility Commitment goals in 2018, we have strived for continued progress and improvement. This validation signals we are moving in the right direction, and we are proud to be a leader in our industry. Working together with our partners, we will continue to create a better world through the power of our chemistry."
Since setting its Corporate Responsibility Commitment goals in 2018, Chemours has demonstrated continuous progress. SBTI approval validates their approach, strengthening their position as an industry leader. By collaborating with partners, Chemours aims to leverage the power of chemistry to create a more sustainable future.
Chemours joins a select group of chemical companies with SBTI-approved emissions reduction targets. The SBTI is a global organisation that helps businesses set ambitious emissions reduction goals aligned with the latest climate science. This initiative, a collaboration between CDP, WRI, WWF, and the UN Global Compact (which Chemours joined in 2018), defines best practices for science-based target setting, provides resources for adoption, and independently assesses and approves company targets.
This announcement follows the release of Chemours' 2023 Sustainability Report, "Partnering for Progress," which highlights the company's substantial 52% reduction from its 2018 baseline in Scope 1 and 2 targets.
