Avalon Releases 2022 Annual Sustainability Report
Avalon Advanced Materials Inc. has released its audited annual financial statements and sustainability report for 2022.
The 2022 Sustainability Report focuses on everything that matters to Avalon regarding health and safety, social issues, the environment, and the economy. It includes a self-assessment of Avalon's sustainability performance for the fiscal year 2022, sets 2023 and long-term goals, and measures the company against the Mining Association of Canada's Towards Sustainable Mining indicators. Avalon's 2022 Sustainability Report was prepared under the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards, core option.
This year, Avalon continued to use the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the UN in its sustainability reports. In 2015, the 17 SDGs were set up by the UN as the world's plan to end extreme poverty, reduce inequality, and protect the planet by 2030. Avalon has matched its GRI Index to each SDG to measure how its business contributes to each SDG.
Don Bubar, President and CEO, commented:
"Sustainable mineral development initiatives related to critical minerals for clean technology have inspired us to look at new process technologies such as sensor-based ore sorting and dense media separation that will make our projects more cost-efficient, and greatly reduce environmental impacts while adding to shareholder value and generating significant benefits for local Indigenous communities. Sustainability reports, such as this one, provide tangible evidence that practice in the mineral development industry is evolving as it transitions toward more cleantech materials production; embraces new, more efficient process technologies; and reduces the scale of its initial operations - all resulting in a greatly reduced environmental footprint compared to that associated with the traditional mining industry."
