MARSDNA is a sustainability tool designed to help businesses in the maritime sector firm up their sustainability actions.
  • The rollout of the sustainability tool will strengthen Abu Dhabi's position as a leader in maritime sustainability.

  • Provide resources and guidance for beginners in ESG to develop strategies for sustainable business practices.

The Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility) and Abu Dhabi Maritime have introduced a new ESG advancement tool—MARSDNA.

The tool, designed by Maqta Technologies Group, helps businesses in the maritime sector, such as shipping companies, port operators, and marine service providers, enrich their Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance.

To use the tool, companies or users must first fill out an online questionnaire. Subsequently, MARSDNA evaluates and understands the current position of the businesses in terms of ESG, using international standards such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the International Maritime Organization metrics, and recommends what needs to be done to improve their sustainability practices.

Captain Saif Al Mheiri, CEO of Abu Dhabi Maritime and Chief Sustainability Officer at AD Ports Group, said: “We are proud to introduce MARSDNA, a pioneering tool with the potential to revolutionise ESG initiatives in our sector. By empowering local organisations with the resources and strategic framework they need to make meaningful gains in sustainability, we can uplift the whole of our maritime community, foster innovation, and set a global standard for progress. I look forward to seeing MARSDNA in action and to hearing how our partners apply its recommendations.”

One of the important aspects of the ESG tool is that it is designed for businesses of all sizes and is particularly helpful for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that may not have the resources to guide them in their sustainability strategies.

In its first phase, MARSDNA focuses on five areas in the maritime sector: shipping companies, port and terminal operators, freight forwarders and cargo beneficiaries, maritime and offshore services, and marine operators.

Abu Dhabi Mobility said: “The launch of MARSDNA, in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Maritime, reflects our ongoing commitment to achieving sustainability goals and supporting environmental, social, and governance initiatives within the maritime sector. MARSDNA contributes to strengthening sustainability practices.

"This platform is a powerful driver for progress in the maritime sector, providing interactive capabilities that allow companies of all sizes to access specialised guidance, helping them develop sustainable strategies aligned with the best environmental and social practices.”
