Nearly 10,000 pieces of furniture will be sourced, delivered, and installed at Sky Studios Elstree by local supplier JPA Workspaces in one of the largest local contracts awarded to date by the studio.

JPA Workspaces, an independent family business just 10 miles from the studio, is nationally recognised for its work in sustainable furniture. The team of experts handpick disused, end of line and ex-demo furniture, giving it a second life in an office space.

Sky Studios Elstree asked JPA Workspaces to source everything from chairs, desks, and sofas to cinema seating for screening rooms. This partnership will lead to an estimated carbon savings of nearly 250 tonnes of CO2 compared to buying brand-new furniture. That’s the equivalent of powering around 250 average-sized houses for over a year.

Fiona Edwards, Head of Sustainability at JPA Workspaces, says: "Our mantra is to furnish with purpose and positive impact, so this has been a unique and ground-breaking partnership. Not only is this method good for the environment but it’s good for the bottom line and we’d love to work with even more businesses to help them save the planet and the pennies."

The businesses first met as Patrons of the Herts Chamber of Commerce and joined forces after a ‘meet the buyer’ event hosted by Sky Studios Elstree as they searched for local suppliers to partner with.

Richard Cooksey, COO of JPA Workspaces, said: "As a company, we’ve already diverted over 25,000 pieces of furniture from landfill and recycled or reused them. Now working with Sky Studios Elstree, we can continue our drive towards a greener future."

Caroline Cooper, COO Sky Studios, said: "We have the ambition to be the most sustainable film and TV studio in the world, so when we met JPA Workspaces, there was a real synergy in what we were trying to achieve. We have been overwhelmed by the wealth of local businesses we can tap into, and we look forward to working with even more very soon."
