  • There are only a few steps involved in the production of SAF, which help reduce costs and energy consumption.

  • A unique iron-based catalyst reacts with CO2 to produce hydrocarbons for jet fuel.

OXCCU, a UK-based leading carbon-to-value company converting carbon dioxide into sustainable fuels, has developed a new technology to produce cheaper, environmentally friendly, and more efficient sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

Their innovative CO₂ Fischer-Tropsch (CO₂ F-T) technology converts carbon dioxide (CO2) into sustainable jet fuel with the help of an iron-based catalyst.

This method is different to and more efficient than other traditional approaches because of three factors: lower cost, efficiency improvements, and environmental benefits.

Firstly, when it comes to cost, the technology reduces capital costs by 50% compared to other conventional methods like Methanol-to-Jet (MTJ) or Reverse Water Gas Shift Fischer-Tropsch (RWGS+FT). The cost to produce fuel is 25% lower per tonne, making it cost-effective and viable for wider use.

Secondly, the technology involves fewer steps to convert CO2 into jet fuel. The catalyst used in the process performs the work in a single step by reacting with CO2, producing hydrocarbons directly and with less hydrogen input. Overall, it reduces operating costs and increases energy efficiency.

Finally, the process has less environmental impact. It reduces greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and meets the UK’s stringent RFNBO GHG emission reduction threshold.

Andrew Symes, Co-Founder and CEO of OXCCU said: “This report demonstrates the economic and environmental advantages of our CO₂ F-T technology, offering a clear pathway for the aviation industry to transition to greener fuel for commercial travel. We are proud to be developing a scalable, cost-effective solution to meet the urgent demand for sustainable fuels.”

The majority of airlines worldwide are likely to hesitate regarding SAF usage due to its expensive production. The good news is that businesses like OXCCU are working on cost-effective, commercially viable methods to produce SAF, which is important for decarbonising the aviation sector and achieving net-zero goals.

OXCCU's novel technology will help airline companies stop worrying, start acting and support the aviation sector's transition to greener fuels.
