Malaysia has taken a major leap forward in green innovation with the launch of the world’s first ESG Light certified for carbon credit eligibility. The breakthrough product, introduced by Synergy ESCO, a Malaysian unit of Hong Kong-listed Unity Group Holdings International Ltd.(Unity), makes the country a pioneer in sustainable technology.

Unveiled during the Carbon Credit and ESG Ecosystem 2025 Conference at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), the ESG Light sets a new benchmark in energy efficiency. Consuming only 4.5 watts of power and offering an extraordinary lifespan of 180,000 hours (around 40 years with 12 hours of daily use), the light provides up to 89% in energy savings.

More than just a lighting solution, the ESG Light is positioned as a financial tool that enables businesses and developers to earn carbon credits through measurable emission reductions.

“ESG Light is no longer just a product—it is a financial tool enabling sustainable development with measurable impact,” said the Chairman and CEO of Unity Group Holdings International Ltd, Mansfield Wong.

The launch also marked the soft opening of the Unity-UPM Sustainability Research and Development Centre, intending to lead research in carbon reduction technologies, green energy integration, and digital agriculture.

As part of a new research initiative, the ESG Light will also be deployed in smart farming. In collaboration with Shine Plus Group Sdn Bhd, the Unity-UPM centre will integrate the light into digital agriculture to cut energy consumption by 70%, increase crop yields tenfold, and enhance ESG compliance by tracking carbon output in food systems.

The ESG Light is central to Unity’s broader goal of reducing carbon dioxide emissions in Malaysia by 25 million tonnes. This target will be pursued through the use of the light and Unity’s Green One Day community program under the Selangor State Government’s Green Initiative, focused on upgrading 6,000 strata properties.

The conference gathered over 200 attendees, including key leaders from government, industry, and the ESG community. Notable speakers included Datuk Dr Tan Yew Chong, Advisor to the Ministry of Plantation and Commodities; Dr Nor Hanizan bin Sahib from LPHS; and senior executives from Unity, Mah Sing Group Bhd, and Beijing Xinghua CPA Firm.

The speakers underscored the urgency of adopting scalable green technologies aligned with national decarbonization goals and ESG finance frameworks. The sentiment of the day was a clear call to shift from awareness to action, and from global warming discussions to strategies for global cooling.

With plans for a secondary listing on Bursa Malaysia, Unity aims to boost its local investor base and support the rapid expansion of its energy management initiatives.
