Singapore Launches First Charging Station for Electric Vessels

Singapore is poised to welcome more electric boats through this partnership.
Electric boats can reduce harmful emissions and improve air quality.
The electric charging station is located at Wilhelmsen Ship Service's Pandan Loop site in Singapore.
Maritime decarbonisation in Singapore gained momentum after the country received its first electric vessel charging station, which will support cleaner and more sustainable port operations.
The project is a partnership between Wilhelmsen Ship Service and Yinson GreenTech. The new station, opened at the former's Pandan Loop facility in Singapore, will make it much easier for electric boats to operate.
The station also plays a constructive role in supporting Hydromover, Singapore’s first fully electric cargo vessel, as well as other electric harbour craft.

The organisations will build the necessary infrastructure to expand the use of electric boats, with the charging station as part of it, which will support existing and future electric vessels, including Yinson’s upgraded Hydromover 2.0 and the electric passenger vessel Hydroglyder.

Kjell Andre Engen, President of Wilhelmsen Ships Service, said: "We believe that transitioning from internal combustion engines to modern electric harbour crafts can significantly reduce emissions and enhance air quality at ports.
"This initiative aligns with our goal of minimising our carbon footprint in maritime logistics and deliveries. It also represents a tangible step towards assisting our customers in addressing Scope 3 emissions within their value chains."
Wilhelmsen Ships Service has been part of a group of industry partners called the Coastal Sustainability Alliance to increase the use of electric vessels in Singapore for two years. Over the course of this time, they worked to reduce the carbon footprint of maritime operations, particularly reducing the supply chain emissions or Scope 3 emissions.

Jan-Viggo Johansen, Managing Director of marinEV, Yinson GreenTech’s marine electrification arm, commented: "This collaboration underscores the critical role of infrastructure readiness in scaling maritime electrification.
"A robust charging network is essential to support the growing fleet of electric harbour craft, including our enhanced electric cargo vessel Hydromover 2.0 and electric passenger hydrofoil vessel Hydroglyder."
