Walmart uses tech to improve experiences for all while staying true to its mission of saving people money and improving their lives.

Since 2005, Walmart has been on a journey to reduce its environmental impact, achieving significant progress by powering 47% of its operations with renewable energy as of CY2022. However, with the business growing and evolving, the need for affordable, reliable, and emissions-free power is becoming more urgent. This need is not only for Walmart but also for its associates and customers.

To accelerate progress toward renewable energy goals, Walmart is expanding its portfolio of off-site clean energy investments, focusing on impactful and high-quality projects. The company aims to add one gigawatt of new clean energy on-site, such as solar and storage, by the end of 2030. This supplements its existing 600+ renewable energy projects in over 10 countries.

Simultaneously, Walmart is working to make clean energy more accessible and affordable for its customers and members. The goal is to help people transition to clean energy in a way that saves them money and improves their quality of life. Initiatives include unlocking up to two gigawatts of new community solar projects in the U.S., driving both clean energy into the grid and cost savings for communities.

By the end of 2030, Walmart aims to advance the transition to emissions-free energy by enabling up to 10 gigawatts of new clean energy projects on- and off-site. This is equivalent to the annual power consumption of over 2 million households.

Walmart is also expanding access to reliable electric vehicle (EV) charging by implementing a fast-charging EV network across thousands of its stores and clubs in the U.S. These chargers, owned and operated by Walmart using partner technology, will be convenient, reliable, and affordable, providing the expected seamless experience for customers.

As Walmart works towards decarbonising its operations, the company aims to deliver affordable, reliable, and clean energy solutions for its customers, members, and communities. Through these efforts, Walmart hopes to contribute to building an energy system that benefits everyone.
