SIRIM Berhad, a corporate organisation of the Malaysian Government, has launched a new ESG initiative called ESG Holistic Ecosystem for the Malaysian industries.
The programme encourages environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices among Malaysian businesses across various industries and supports them in becoming more sustainable, thereby contributing to national and global environmental goals.
SIRIM's chairman, Datuk Khairol Anuar Mohamad Tawi, said the ecosystem provides the country's businesses with the tools they require to grow sustainably and compete internationally.
“Through rigorous certification, training and advance testing capabilities, SIRIM’s role extends far beyond certifications; we are empowering companies with a ‘passport for prosperity’, enabling them to thrive in a market that values ESG integrity and competitiveness," he said.
SIRIM is working closely with the Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (Miti) to launch the Smart Tech Up programme, which aims to create 3,000 smart factories by 2030. The priority industries for the programme include electronics, chemicals, medical devices, aerospace, and pharmaceuticals, aligning with Malaysia's 2030 industrial plan.
SIRIM has also released guidelines to help data centres function sustainably. Since they have high energy demands, the guidelines encourage the use of green technology and renewable energy sources, supporting the country in achieving its net zero emissions goals by 2030.
