The former real estate division of the French hospitality giant, Accor, has made a bold move reflecting both strategic realignment and a long-term commitment to sustainable hospitality. AccorInvest has officially revealed its brand new name to the world: Essendi. While the announcement was made on April 28, 2025, the AccorInvest rebranding marks a turning point for the company since it established itself as a separate entity in 2017, attempting to reposition itself as a major player in the European hotel market.

The new name, Essendi, is inspired by the Latin phrase meaning "what must be," symbolizing the company’s core purpose and forward-looking vision. According to Laurent Turpaut, Senior Vice President of Communication, the rebrand represents not only a name change but the culmination of a transformative journey aimed at balancing ownership, operations, and a human-centered, sustainable hospitality mission.

CEO Gilles Clavié highlighted the significance of ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) in the company’s new direction, stating that environmental and social performance are no longer optional but pivotal to business success. As part of its sustainability roadmap, Essendi is targeting 100% Green Key certification across its portfolio by 2026 and a 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. These are clear signals of its commitment to responsible hospitality.

While Accor still holds a 30% stake in Essendi, plans are in place to fully divest by mid-2026, enabling the company to explore strategic growth independently. This is in sync with Essent's ambition to innovate and lead within the European hotel market, particularly through partnerships that align with its ESG principles.

The AccorInvest rebranding process was put in place through a participative process, engaging employees across hotel and corporate teams. With creative direction from agency Dragon Rouge, the move to a new identity was carefully managed and kept confidential until the official unveiling.

To celebrate its new identity, Essendi is hosting simultaneous launch events in key cities such as Paris, London, Warsaw, and Munich. A comprehensive communications campaign is also underway, targeting stakeholders in the real estate, financial, and institutional sectors with a message focused on sustainable hospitality and responsible hospitality.

Currently operating 576 hotels across 24 countries under Accor’s banners, such as Ibis, Novotel, and Mercure, Essendi reported €4 billion in revenue for 2024 and a €656 million gross operating profit. Strategic asset disposals have helped reduce pandemic-era debt from €5 billion to €3 billion by the end of 2024.
