Highlights

  • Primark and Circular Textiles Foundation provide circular design training.

  • Making 100% of clothes recyclable by design by 2027.

  • Training helps in applying circular principles to different product categories.

Primark, the global fashion retailer, has partnered with the Circular Textiles Foundation (CTF) to provide circular design training for their teams.

They are launching a new training programme for Primark's design and product teams on designing clothing for better recyclability.

The training focuses on integrating circular design principles into every stage of the product lifecycle. Primark will collaborate with selected suppliers to review each product category and find ways to enhance recyclability. The aim is to produce clothing that is easy to recycle while keeping Primark’s style and affordability intact.

Nicholas Lambert, Primark's Head of Circularity, says, "This is the next step for us at Primark to really start embedding circular design principles into the core of how we design and make our products. Our teams are really looking forward to honing their skills and understanding where we can elevate our designs through this bespoke new training. We want to keep pushing our in-house designers and suppliers to create fun and innovative ways to elevate our clothes beyond what our customers may traditionally expect from us.”

Tim Cross, Founder of CTF, says, "Sharing knowledge is crucial to tackling the industry's issues at pace and scale and this is where the Circular Textiles Foundation comes in. We are taking designing for recyclability mainstream, making it accessible and available to all. We hope that by working with Primark we will take a step closer to encouraging industrywide change. We look forward to Primark engaging with us on this journey and the opportunities for progress."

Building on the success of its first circular design training programme, which involved over 500 employees, Primark is speeding up its sustainability efforts. The retailer has started using circular design principles in some collections and has introduced products that meet its Circular Product Standard. The partnership with Disney on a Lion King-inspired collection spotlights Primark's focus on blending fashion with environmental responsibility.

Primark is focusing on making its products more recyclable and using circular design principles to help them last longer and lessen the impact of fashion on the environment.
