Mastercard announced the appointment of Ellen Jackowski as Chief Sustainability Officer. She will be essential in further integrating the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategy of Mastercard throughout the organisation in her new position.

Mike Froman, vice chairman and president of Strategic Growth for Mastercard, said:

"We are excited to welcome Ellen as our new Chief Sustainability Officer. She is widely regarded as a leader and innovator in ESG, and we look forward to her working with partners across the company to take Mastercard to the next level in our ESG efforts."

Mastercard began its ESG initiatives a decade ago, focusing on financial access, inclusive growth, and data accountability. It has expanded to encompass environmental stewardship and corporate governance in the past five years.

Today, the company's ESG efforts are based on the principle of "doing well by doing good" to have a meaningful influence and promote the flourishing of both people and the world.

Shamina Singh, founder and president of the Mastercard Centre for Inclusive Growth, said:

"We’ve got strong momentum in making ESG a true differentiator—and value driver—for the company. Ellen will be a great addition, helping to expand our efforts as we look at what is most important to our company and where we can deliver the greatest impact on society.”

Jackowski comes to Mastercard from HP, where she served as the Chief Impact Officer and the Head of Sustainable Impact. Her global team designed and implemented numerous projects centred on climate change, human rights, and digital equity. Earlier in her career, Jackowski held many positions in management and consulting.

“I’m a big believer that actions carry much more weight than words,” said Jackowski. “Mastercard has shown over the past several years just how seriously it takes its commitments and the immense impact it can deliver. I’m excited to be joining a team that’s rising to the moment and creating a more just and inclusive world.”

She is a member of the Ocean Plastics Leadership Network's advisory board, a deputy adviser on the Champions for Nature community of the World Economic Forum, and a former faculty member of the Prince of Wales's Business & Sustainability Programme at the University of Cambridge.

Jackowski holds a Bachelor of Science from Northwestern University and has attended the Building Innovative Leaders programme at the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University.
