Cranfield University is leading the charge in sustainability efforts, ranking number one in the UK and sixth globally for its work supporting UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 17 – Partnerships for the Goals.

This category jump of 25 places in the 2024 Times Higher Education Impact rankings highlights Cranfield's expertise in cross-sector and international collaboration for sustainability.

Overall, Cranfield's commitment to sustainability has propelled them into the global top 200 universities out of 1963 institutions, a considerable climb from the top 300 in 2023. This achievement places Cranfield within the top 10% of universities worldwide for sustainability efforts.

Beyond the overall ranking, Cranfield is committed to the following SDG areas:

  • Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8): Cranfield now sits within the global top 50, reflecting its research in economics and employment, along with its focus on responsible work practices and student placements.

  • Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6): Cranfield's research on water management and its efforts to reduce and reuse water on campus have earned them a spot in the global top 100.

  • Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12): Cranfield's dedication to sustainability reporting, recycling initiatives, and research in responsible consumption practices positions them within the global top 200.

Chief Executive and Vice-Chancellor of Cranfield University, Professor Karen Holford CBE FREng, says: “We’ve seen a leap upwards in so many areas, in only our second year in the Times Higher Impact rankings. This reflects a whole University approach to developing and delivering our contribution to a sustainable world.

“I’m really proud of what we have achieved here, a big thank you to staff across Cranfield who have contributed to this submission and to our partners across the world. We will continue to build on our progress and push to align ourselves even more closely with these important goals.”
