Henry Schein has announced Practice Green, an international effort to get practitioners, practice teams, and dental labs to be more eco-friendly and to help the healthcare community set up sustainable practices for a healthier planet.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) says climate change is anticipated to cause around 250,000 more deaths each year from malnutrition, malaria, diarrhoea, and heat stress between 2030 and 2050.

A report on PubMed.gov says that nurses and other healthcare professionals can be very helpful in communicating with patients and their families, working with hospitals and health systems to reduce emissions, and influencing the adoption of strategies to better prepare healthcare facilities and communities for the health effects of climate change.

Henry Schein's Practice Green seeks to provide customers with solutions that will assist them in implementing practical ways to become more sustainable while adhering to current health and safety requirements and continuing to provide high-quality patient care.

There will be a range of products and solutions that are good for the environment, as well as services that help create greener habits and improve efforts to protect the environment.

Henry Schein carefully chose the "green" products for the Practice Green portfolio based on the marketing information provided by the product's supplier partner. These products are either reusable, made from recycled materials, can be recycled, biodegradable, or come from a sustainable source.

“We are pleased to present Henry Schein’s Practice Green programme for our customers throughout the EMEA region and soon beyond,” said Andrea Albertini, President, International Distribution Group, Henry Schein. “As a global distributor of health care solutions, we support health care professionals and the journey towards enhancing environmental sustainability.

“Practice Green embodies Henry Schein’s commitment to offer customers the latest, innovative products and solutions that help enhance efficiency, optimise care delivery, and provide high-quality patient care,” added Mr. Albertini. “Through this programme, we advance our commitment to meeting the needs of our customers who are concerned about the environmental impact of their practice or laboratory. We strongly believe that the actions we take today will help protect the earth and our natural resources, as well as help build a healthier world for all.”

The initiative will start in January and continue to grow over time, with new products, services, and solutions added as Practice Green adapts to the ever-changing healthcare landscape.

Practice Green is in line with Henry Schein's commitment to reducing its environmental impact, reducing landfill waste, recycling and reusing valuable materials, and making smart and efficient use of energy and water resources. The company's approach to measuring, monitoring, and reporting carbon emissions and other environmental impacts is always being improved.

Henry Schein signed the Business Ambition for 1.5⁰C Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in 2021, promising to create a long-term, science-based emissions reduction objective to achieve net-zero world emissions by 2050.

With its global environmental footprint and unique place in an ecosystem of relationships with suppliers, business partners, and customers, Henry Schein wants to co-create an ethical, inclusive, circular, and carbon-neutral supply chain, manage its impacts together, and innovate for sustainability.
