At the 2023 Global Mobile Broadband Forum (MBBF), an exciting partnership was forged between Zain KSA and Huawei, as they entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a strong commitment to green energy cooperation.

Under the banner of "Green 5G, 5G for Green," the two entities have embraced a strategic vision aimed at enhancing the environmental sustainability of their operations.

Central to this initiative is the adoption of the wireless network energy efficiency indicator (NEE2.0), which will serve as the foundation for deploying comprehensive energy-efficient hardware and software solutions.

This partnership signifies a significant step towards achieving the overarching goals of energy conservation, carbon reduction, and the pursuit of a sustainable future within Zain KSA's network infrastructure.

This collaboration isn't the first of its kind between Zain KSA and Huawei in the realm of green energy. Building upon three years of prior cooperation, Huawei's solutions made a remarkable impact by reducing Zain KSA's mobile network electricity consumption by a substantial 28% in the preceding year.

With renewed vigour, both parties have extended their commitment to innovation and the implementation of energy-efficient hardware. This includes the widespread deployment of advanced technologies like MetaAAUs and ultra-wideband RRUs.

Cutting-edge innovations such as the extremely large antenna array (ELAA), ultra-wideband power amplifiers, and RF algorithms promise to significantly elevate network energy efficiency.

Furthermore, the integration of the latest "0 bit, 0 watt" technology is set to achieve an astounding 99% reduction in module power consumption during periods of inactivity.

Additionally, Zain KSA and Huawei are joining forces to introduce intelligent network energy-saving technologies. One of the key innovations in this sphere is the iPowerStar intelligent energy-saving solution. It will be applied to complex networks, factoring in equipment energy efficiency, frequency band coverage, traffic volume, and energy-saving capabilities. This will enable the formulation of intelligent energy-saving policies, ultimately optimising energy efficiency across the entire network.

In their quest for sustainable practices, both parties are looking beyond the immediate horizon and focusing on full-lifecycle energy savings and carbon reduction.

They are poised to collaborate on a holistic approach that addresses carbon emissions throughout the equipment lifecycle, encompassing manufacturing, transportation, online operation, and recycling.

Through innovative techniques concerning material selection, weight reduction, energy consumption, and equipment recyclability, this collaboration aims to propel the development of eco-friendly networks.

Furthermore, Zain KSA and Huawei are resolute in their commitment to the viability and leadership of Huawei's energy-saving solutions. Their shared vision entails not only honouring the established contract but also fostering a spirit of perpetual innovation and cooperation to champion the cause of green network development. In doing so, they aspire to set an exemplary precedent for the entire industry in its pursuit of sustainable development.

The Global Mobile Broadband Forum 2023, themed "Bring 5.5G into Reality," was organised by Huawei in collaboration with industry partners GSMA, GTI, and SAMENA. Held in Dubai, UAE on October 10 and 11, this annual gathering brought together global mobile network carriers, leaders from various vertical industries, and ecosystem partners to explore the progress of 5G commercialisation and expedite the realisation of 5.5G.
