TagEnergy's first UK battery storage plant has begun operations following the completion of construction at the 20MW/40MWh Hawkers Hill Energy Park near Shaftesbury in Dorset, England.

Hawkers Hill is the first TagEnergy renewable energy project to go live from its expanding portfolio of more than 3GW in five countries: the United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, France, and Australia.

The first MWh from the new-build plant was recently exported to the grid, a year after TagEnergy and project partner Tesla began building the £16 million facility in September 2021. Santander UK, another partner, contributed £6.4 million to the project's development.

For real-time trading and control, the two-hour front-of-meter Hawkers Hill facility uses a system of Tesla Megapack lithium-ion batteries in conjunction with Tesla's Autobidder AI software.

The timely completion will benefit the UK system and allow for increased penetration of renewable energy into households and businesses as energy demand rises throughout the winter months.

Franck Woitiez, Chief Executive Officer, TagEnergy said:

“Hawkers Hill Energy Park was the first investment we announced when we entered the UK market in 2021. Its completion is a key milestone in the advancement of our strategy to accelerate the energy transition in the UK renewables market.

“Flexible technology systems like Hawkers Hill Energy Park’s battery storage will play an increasingly important role in boosting the UK’s ability to capture, store and release renewable energy for a more reliable and regular supply. We are proud to be delivering clean power to support the national grid at this critical time and will continue to leverage our battery storage expertise and flexible supply to optimise the market, help stabilise the grid and increase renewables’ share of it.”

TagEnergy announced earlier this year an asset management agreement with RES, a global pioneer in energy storage, to oversee operations at Hawkers Hill Energy Park and assist TagEnergy in delivering flexible, low-cost electricity to consumers.
