Peninsula, a prominent provider of marine energy, has successfully carried out its inaugural delivery of sustainable biofuel to DS NORDEN, reinforcing its position as a leader in the industry.

The supply operation, which occurred on June 19th in Gibraltar, involved Peninsula's BIO blend (VLSFO B24), derived from Used Cooking Oil (UCO), and was transported by the chemical tanker Hercules Sky, a recent addition to the Peninsula fleet. NORDEN's bulk carrier, La Luna, received the biofuel, reflecting the growing demand for such eco-friendly alternatives in the Mediterranean region.

Peninsula's biofuels, which fall under the drop-in, low-carbon category, offer the advantage of requiring minimal retrofitting or modifications to receiving vessels.

Moreover, the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC) accreditation ensures that biofuels originate from feedstocks with fully traceable, sustainable, and greenhouse gas (GHG)-reducing supply chains. This enables Peninsula to directly support customers in their efforts to reduce carbon emissions.

In alignment with customer requirements, Peninsula continuously advances its decarbonisation strategy, with biofuels emerging as a significant solution for emissions reduction. Sustainable biofuels have become an integral part of Peninsula's product strategy, expanding its diverse range of offerings and facilitating the collective transition towards a zero-carbon future.

Peninsula CEO John Bassadone expressed enthusiasm for the inclusion of biofuels in their product portfolio, emphasising the company's meticulous planning and commitment to bringing eco-friendly options to the market.

The partnership with NORDEN, a shipping company with a strong sustainability focus, demonstrates trust and confidence in Peninsula's endeavours to support decarbonisation efforts. The collaboration represents a vital step forward in both companies' journey towards achieving net-zero emissions.

Nacho de Miguel, Peninsula's Head of Sustainability, emphasised their strategic focus on supplying biofuels in key ports with significant demand. Recognising the Mediterranean as a crucial region for global shipping and the strategic advantage of the Gibraltar Strait, Peninsula aims to play a pivotal role in meeting the escalating demand for biofuels and assisting its global customer base in decarbonising the shipping industry.

Henrik Røjel, Head of Decarbonisation & Climate Solutions at NORDEN, underlined their commitment to decarbonising customers' supply chains and the importance of sustainable biofuel suppliers. NORDEN expressed satisfaction in collaborating with Peninsula on their inaugural sustainable biofuel delivery and looked forward to a continued partnership in the future.
