New Green Hydrogen Cluster to Transform Ånge Region
Key Takeaways
Lhyfe, OX2 and Velarion are building a green hydrogen industrial cluster in Ånge municipality.
OX2’s wind farm in Marktjärn will power the hydrogen production unit.
Lhyfe’s hydrogen production unit will produce up to 100 tonnes of green hydrogen per day.
Velarion will build a carbon-neutral fertiliser plant using green hydrogen.
Lhyfe, the global leader in green hydrogen production, OX2, one of the largest onshore wind developers in Europe and Velarion, the innovative green fertiliser company founded in Ånge are partnering to create a hydrogen industrial cluster in Ånge municipality, Sweden.
Located in Grönsta just north of Torpshammar this will be a wind and large-scale green hydrogen production site to produce carbon-neutral products.
OX2 is developing a wind farm in Marktjärn, Torpshammar which will produce 1.4 TWh per year. This green electricity will power Lhyfe’s hydrogen production unit in Torpshammar which will produce up to 100 tonnes of green hydrogen per day and will be supported by an electrolysis capacity of about 300 MW. Lhyfe will produce green and renewable hydrogen through water electrolysis powered by renewable energy sources.
Anders Nilsson, Head of Onshore Wind at OX2 says: “We are excited about the potential of this project, which will utilize electricity from wind farm Marktjärn to power a green industrial cluster, enabling sustainable local industry and enhance the attractiveness for further industrial establishments in Ånge."
Sara Wihlborg, Country Manager Sweden at Lhyfe says: “Due to the large potential production capacity, we are in dialogue with several companies that aim to refine hydrogen and its by-products. These collaborations will help build a local ecosystem that contributes to the region’s economy and job creation."
Velarion is a key partner in this project and will build one of the world’s first carbon-neutral fertiliser plant in this cluster. This will be a state-of-the-art facility that will use green hydrogen to produce green ammonia, reducing carbon emissions in fertiliser production and meeting the growing demand for sustainable products.
The project is in the conceptual phase and will move forward depending on the outcome of further studies, operating licenses, environmental permits and financial investment decisions.
Lhyfe, OX2 and Velarion are working together to make Ånge a green industrial hub and long term this will make the municipality a leader in sustainable industry and attract more companies.
