Digital Edge Launches 2nd Data Centre in South Korea for ESG Goals
South Korea receives its second data centre in Seoul.
Supports the rapid rise of cloud and AI applications across the country.
Digital Edge, a Singaporean company that builds data centres, has announced its second data centre in South Korea's capital Seoul. The new facility, SEL2, was developed in partnership with SK Ecoplant.
The announcement is part of a big project that aims to build a large campus for data centres in Incheon. The campus will be built with a power capacity of 100 megawatts and is expected to be one of the biggest data centres in South Korea once completed. The second phase of the construction work is set to begin in 2025.
SEL2 supports high-density computing applications, meaning it can handle much power within a small space. It uses modern technology to handle the growing demand for cloud services, is energy-efficient, uses less water and power, and focuses on environmental sustainability.
With the opening of SEL2, the company has three data centres in South Korea, one in Seoul and the other in Busan. The new centre is conveniently located near major transport routes.
There is a huge demand for data centres in the country, and it is advancing in digital technologies, ranking at the top in this area. Also, the artificial intelligence (AI) market is expected to grow exponentially in the years to come.
Samuel Lee, Chief Executive Officer for Digital Edge, said: “We are proud to partner with SK Ecoplant in the development of SEL2 to bring next-generation digital infrastructure to Asia Pacific, and support the rapid rise of cloud and AI applications across South Korea. Seoul remains a key market within the region’s data center landscape and we are delighted to be able to continue to support the acceleration of its fast growing digital economy.”
Andrew Pak, Country Manager for Digital Edge in South Korea, added: “SEL2 further strengthens our presence across the market by bringing large scale, high-power density data center capacity to complement our existing connectivity-focused sites in Seoul and Busan. Crucially, by working alongside our partners at SK Ecoplant who share our ESG commitments, we have been able to build a highly energy efficient facility that meets the performance demands of our customers alongside our environmental objectives.”
