DB Schenker, one of the world's leading logistics service companies, has announced the inauguration of DLC 3, its latest renewable-powered mega hub, in Dubai.

After DLC 1 opened in 2016 and DLC 2 in 2019, this third hub, which can hold a total of 200,000 Euro pallets, successfully concludes the company's expansion phase in the UAE. DLC 3 is a 35,000-square-meter warehouse that is entirely powered by solar energy.

DLC 3 is temperature-controlled and has a capacity of 90,000 Euro pallets. It helps a wide range of businesses with their warehouse needs, like storing dangerous goods and providing delivery services for B2C e-commerce, by taking advantage of its good connections to land, sea, and air freight modes. There is also a 5,000-square-metre mezzanine floor dedicated to various value-added service operations.

The new facility, like the second, will strengthen the sustainability agenda and commitment, and the creation of this expansive green logistics centre will increase capacity and network. During construction, it was decided to use new, eco-friendly technology and long-lasting building materials. This kept 5 tonnes of CO2 from being released into the atmosphere.

Furthermore, the solar systems placed at the site meet the entire energy need of the 74,000 square metres of warehouse space and 5,000 square metres of office buildings, saving 4000 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year, which is equivalent to planting over 400,000 trees.

Ako Djaf, VP Contract Logistics and SCM of DB Schenker in the Middle East and Africa said:

“The three-phase growth plan we established in 2015 was an important strategic decision. Al Maktoum International Airport and Jabel Ali Port, one of the most important transportation hubs in the world, are close to all three facilities, DLC 1, 2, and 3. Today we observe the outstanding success of these developments, which made DB Schenker become a leading logistics service provider in the MEA region. We are a leader in sustainability and new technologies, and we can offer our customers unique warehousing solutions for a wide range of industries, including consumer, automotive, industrial, and luxury products in fashion and accessories. This makes us the first choice for top-tier customers.”

Mohsen Ahmad, CEO of the Logistics District - Dubai South, commented:

"DB Schenker's new building will strengthen the whole ecosystem of the Logistics District, thanks to its innovative solutions, excellent services, and best sustainable practises, which all show how forward-thinking its business strategy is. We will do everything we can to keep DB Schenker at the top of its game and offer a sustainable logistics advisory council in line with the UAE Net-Zero 2050 strategic initiative. Global and regional players benefit from Dubai South’s customer-centric processes and the seamless, multimodal connectivity between road, air and sea transportation."

DB Schenker assists several global companies in establishing themselves in the Middle East and Africa region. It helps them grow their businesses around the world in this high-potential market that is also the gateway to Africa. In the last seven years, the company's logistics centres have grown by more than 325,000 square metres, making it one of the fastest-growing logistics service providers in the region.
