Committed to sustainability, Amazon's Climate Pledge Fund invested in female-led Glacier, a company using ultra-modern technology to improve recycling efficiency and combat climate change.

Glacier's robots and AI identify and sort recyclable materials, aiming to divert valuable resources from landfills and oceans.

Driven by impact, Glacier co-founders Rebecca Hu and Areeb Malik saw automation as a powerful solution to address the limited reach of current recycling infrastructure. Their robots boost sorting accuracy and recover more recyclables, preventing millions of items from ending up in landfills annually.

Glacier's innovation goes beyond the robots. Their AI analyses recycling data, providing valuable insights to optimise operations for both recycling facilities and brands. This data empowers brands to improve packaging recyclability and facilities to maximise resource recovery.

Supporting female leadership, Phoebe Wang, who led the investment in Glacier, highlighted the importance of removing barriers for women in climate tech. By funding companies like Glacier and Genecis, Amazon aims to encourage broader support for female founders in the sustainability sector.

Glacier's custom-built robots are designed for efficiency and scalability. Each robot can divert millions of items from landfills a year. Plus, Hu's team is developing advanced vision technology to identify a wider range of recyclables, further improving efficiency.

Amazon and Glacier are collaborating to pilot sorting solutions for novel biomaterials. This collaboration aligns with Amazon's long-term vision of reducing plastic use and transitioning to bio-based, biodegradable materials. This includes testing and recycling new biomaterials and collaborating with industry partners to develop new recycling solutions.

Amazon's commitment to sustainability goes beyond collaboration. They actively reduce unnecessary packaging, implement waste-reduction processes, and prioritise recyclable materials. This includes innovative programmes like Ships in Product Packaging (SIPP) and the first US fulfillment centre with eliminated plastic packaging.

Glacier and Amazon's partnership represents a massive step towards a more sustainable future. By combining innovative technology with a commitment to female leadership and industry-wide collaboration, this partnership has the potential to revolutionise the way we handle waste and combat climate change.
