At CES 2023 in Las Vegas, the most prominent tech show in the world, ABB E-mobility unveiled its new Terra Home charging solution.

When it goes on sale in 2024, the Terra Home will be the first of a new generation of EV chargers for homes. Users will be able to get the most out of their renewable energy sources, which will help them reduce their carbon footprint even more.

It is predicted that between 340 and 490 million chargers will be required globally by 2040, with home chargers accounting for 82% of all EV charging installations.

To mark the release of ABB E-mobility's new home charging solution, the market leader commissioned a survey to find out what the top priorities of drivers around the world are for 2023 and beyond. It found that sustainability is one of the things that drives them the most. 90% of the people surveyed said they thought it was their duty to help protect the planet for future generations.

This was reflected in the 86% of respondents who said they would take steps to minimise their travel emissions in the coming year. One of the top eco-friendly ideas being thought about in Canada is switching to an electric car and reducing the number of private cars on the road while increasing the number of people who take public transportation.

Leon van de Pas, SVP for the Destination charging business line at ABB E-mobility, said: “As we mark the start of yet another pivotal year in our drive to enable a low-carbon society, the survey results demonstrate that drivers are ready and willing to make the journey alongside us.

"Giving users more options than ever before, the new Terra Home makes it possible for even more people to easily and stylishly switch to electric mobility."

ABB E-new mobility's Terra Home charging solution, with the ability to automatically prioritise electricity from renewable domestic sources such as solar, will particularly appeal to more than half of respondents (54%), who said they would be more likely to use an EV if they could ensure the electricity powering it was generated sustainably.

The Terra Home not only sets a new standard for sustainable charging options but also for design and simplicity. The Terra Home's basic design, material selection, and customisable cover options allow it to blend in with a wide range of houses and lifestyles.

Meanwhile, smart features like Plug N Charge make it possible for the car and charger to instantly and automatically recognise each other. This makes charging authorisation completely seamless. Also, the charging session's status can be seen through the lights, and notifications are easy to find on the ABB E-mobility charger app. This app can also be used to authenticate a charge, ensuring that only the owner can connect to their Terra Home.

The cloud connection between Terra Home and ABB E-mobility gives users peace of mind because an experienced team can quickly and easily service the charger from afar. Remote firmware updates ensure that users always have the most up-to-date charging features.
