Kirkland & Ellis has announced that Rhys Davies has recently become a partner in the London-based Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) & Impact Practice Group.

“Rhys is a talented lawyer with extensive experience counselling clients on the evolving ESG regulatory landscape, including the EU’s Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation, which is a key focus for our global sponsor client base,” said partner Alexandra Farmer, a leader of Kirkland’s ESG & Impact practice. “His regulatory experience is underpinned by a strong foundational knowledge of the substance of ESG, built through counselling clients on topics such as climate change, biodiversity and human rights. We are excited to welcome him to Kirkland.”

With over 15 years of experience, Mr. Davies has provided counsel to private equity firms, public companies, and project sponsors on the implementation and development of ESG strategies across various sectors, such as infrastructure, energy and natural resources, real estate, and technology.

He has also gained extensive regulatory knowledge of environmental and social issues in transactional settings as well as proceedings before decision-makers, panels, tribunals, and superior courts.

“I am thrilled to join Kirkland and eager to contribute to the Firm’s outstanding work in the ESG space,” Mr. Davies said. “Kirkland’s exceptional team and the diverse client base interested in ESG are among the many reasons I was drawn to Kirkland for the next chapter of my career.”

In 2006, Mr. Davies earned a bachelor's degree in arts (with honours) and a bachelor of laws degree from the University of Western Australia. He also holds a postgraduate certificate in Sustainable Business from the University of Cambridge and a Fundamentals of Sustainability Accounting (FSA) Credential granted by the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board. He comes to Kirkland from DLA Piper, where he previously held the position of International Sustainability & ESG Lead.

Kirkland's ESG & Impact Practice Group comprises more than 20 attorneys in the US and UK, providing clients with comprehensive, multidisciplinary guidance and advanced market insights throughout their investments and companies' investment and operational life cycles as they navigate the complexities and possibilities related to ESG and impact.

Kirkland is dedicated to being a leader in corporate social responsibility, which includes enhancing communities and the legal profession through philanthropy; promoting and embracing diversity, inclusion, and well-being within the Firm and the legal industry; reducing the Firm's environmental footprint; and providing legal services pro bono to those who cannot afford representation.
