M&G plc, the premier global company specialising in savings and investments, has announced the appointment of Kathy Ryan as its Chief Sustainability Officer.

In her new role, Kathy will be in charge of M&G's Group Sustainability Strategy. Her primary mission will be to infuse sustainability into the very fabric of the organisation, thereby spearheading positive real-world changes as a conscientious, long-term investor.

Kathy's journey to M&G stems from her previous position as the Head of Responsible Investment at Irish Life Investment Management (ILIM).

While at ILIM, Kathy expertly curated and led a team of ESG specialists, fostering the integration of ESG principles and stewardship across various asset classes.

Her influence extended beyond the company, as she elevated sustainable best practices industry-wide and chaired the CDP Ireland Network. Kathy also championed the launch of the 30% Investor Initiative Ireland on Diversity and made meaningful contributions to Ireland's Climate Action Plan.

Kathy's track record in sustainable investing is a testament to her accomplishments. She is the visionary behind Global Green Investments, an ESG investment research and analytics firm. Through this venture, she provided counsel to esteemed clients like the World Bank, the European Commission, and the UK Government.

Kathy Ryan is set to assume her new role on the 13th of November and will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer, Kathryn McLeland.

Kathryn McLeland, the Chief Financial Officer of M&G plc, expressed her delight at welcoming Kathy to the team. She lauded Kathy's deep technical expertise and wealth of experience in advancing sustainable investing, recognising her as the ideal candidate to drive M&G's sustainability strategy to new heights.

In response, Kathy Ryan, the incoming Chief Sustainability Officer, emphasised the profound role that the industry must play in advancing sustainable outcomes and financing the transition to a net-zero future.

Kathy's commitment to responsible asset management, pensions, life and savings aligns perfectly with M&G's mission to develop sustainable, long-term investment solutions.

She looks forward to collaborating with her colleagues to build upon M&G's existing strengths and enhance its approach to sustainability, building on initiatives such as PruFund Planet and the Catalyst investment strategy.
