CSL, a global frontrunner in biotechnology, has announced a significant stride in its commitment to sustainability.

In a groundbreaking move, the company has appointed Jeffrey Ball as its inaugural Chief Sustainability Officer. Mr. Ball, a seasoned global leader with a diverse range of expertise, assumes this pivotal role with immediate effect.

This marks a pivotal moment for CSL, elevating its dedication to fostering a healthier world in line with the revamped Sustainability Strategy unveiled in August 2021.

Having been an integral part of CSL since 2019, Jeffrey Ball has contributed significantly to the evolution of the Sustainability Strategy.

Notably, he played a pivotal role in instituting vital governance structures, such as the Executive Sustainability Committee. This committee, composed of esteemed senior leaders spanning CSL's various functions, holds the mantle for shaping and guiding the Sustainability Strategy while effectively overseeing its day-to-day operations.

In his new capacity as Chief Sustainability Officer, Mr. Ball continues to steer these pivotal responsibilities, simultaneously spearheading the expansion and effective execution of paramount sustainability objectives and initiatives.

Paul McKenzie, the CEO & Managing Director of CSL, underscores the paramount significance of sustainability within the organisation's overarching vision.

As he aptly puts it, "Sustainability is key to CSL delivering long-term shared-value creation." This sentiment aligns seamlessly with the company's ethos as a science-driven entity, emphasising the importance of data-informed decision-making and the ceaseless drive for process and product enhancement.

Much like the scientific rigour that characterises CSL, the same meticulousness is being directed toward their sustainability pursuits. Jeffrey Ball's profound experience within the biopharma/biotech sector positions him to bridge these domains. His strategic alignment of the Sustainability Strategy with the 2030 Strategy embodies the synergy between business acumen and ecological responsibility.

CSL's sustainability endeavours are intrinsically grounded in a tri-pillared framework: Environment, Social, and Sustainable Workforce, all rooted in robust Governance.

Under the Environment pillar, CSL is actively channelling efforts into weaving sustainability seamlessly into operational decisions, markedly curtailing carbon emissions, and curbing waste generation through innovative practices, be it removal, reduction, or recycling.

Furthermore, the company is amplifying its contributions by propagating analogous initiatives within its supply chain. An indication of its unwavering commitment, CSL recently embarked on the journey of obtaining validation from the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for its near-term company-wide emissions reduction, a nod to its resolute stance on combating climate change.

Speaking on this momentous occasion, Mr. Ball expressed his deep honour in assuming the mantle of CSL's first Chief Sustainability Officer. He fervently champions the ongoing efforts to infuse sustainability across the company's landscape, furthering the profound strides already taken.

Anchored in CSL's core values and its resounding purpose for a sustainable future, both for humanity and the planet, Mr. Ball confidently navigates the transformative steps that lie ahead in CSL's sustainability journey.

Mr. Ball's trajectory leading up to CSL is marked by impactful roles, including his tenure as the Executive Officer of Operations at Aspen Aerogels, where he played a pivotal role in steering strategic direction and enhancing collaboration between supply-side operations and R&D.

Before that, his tenure at Genzyme, Amgen, and Bayer underscored his multifaceted contributions to the chemical, biopharmaceutical, and biotechnology sectors. Notably, he holds a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from Bucknell University and a master's degree in Chemical Engineering from Villanova University. This rich blend of experience, combined with his academic prowess, forms the bedrock of his leadership within CSL's sustainability drive.

CSL's resolute steps, underscored by the visionary appointment of Jeffrey Ball as Chief Sustainability Officer, cast a vibrant spotlight on the company's unswerving commitment to shaping a sustainable and vibrant future.
